The focus of my 2014 was to attempt to perfect the art described below, just as it was last year, and will be for 2015.
This is my year in review.
I spent the first week of the year relaxing in the Canadian Rockies having just come off a trip to Iceland. After returning to the Bay the rest of the month was dominated by day trips to Yosemite, the headlands, and the beach.
February will be remembered as working to the sound of the rain on coffee shop windows and unusually cold days. A return to the Canadian Rockies for some time on the skis and trips to Point Reyes for time in the sun.
March saw a return trip to Yosemite for a night under the stars, an introduction to hiking in the East Bay and an unusually high number of day trips to the beach.
April will be remembered for some of the funnest all-nighters I've ever pulled and watching the sun rise from the Ferry Building one too many times. A spontaneous weekend roadtrip across the entire state of Oregon and drinking too much coffee in Portland.
May saw time spent in the sun in San Francisco & Oakland and rainy days in Montréal on a visit to celebrate the life of my Grandfather.
May also saw the most aggressive hike of the year, tackling a 40 mile loop over 4 mountain passes in the backcountry of Yosemite in a mere 32 hours. (In-n-out was obviously the first stop after that trip-then sleeping for a full day.)
June was spent looking after a close friend who had fallen sick and as a result spending more valuable time with mutual friends. June also saw a change of work studios, moving out of Jackson Square and into the Exposure Studio for the month! (So meta right now.)
Midway through July saw a trip to Canada for a whirlwind tour through Alberta with Kyle Frost, and time spent in British Columbia with old friends. Followed by an eventual move to Montréal for the remainder of the summer.
August was spent getting reacquainted with my hometown of Montréal: Drinking good coffee, making new friends, and spending a lot of time in the pool to escape the brutal humid heat.
The tail end of August also saw a quick trip to Vermont to hike around Stowe.
If August was spent getting reacquainted with Montréal, September was spent feeling at home again-that feeling was short lived as a move back out west was already on the horizon.
October saw a temporary move to Calgary, for catch up time in the Rockies, before an eventual move back to San Francisco with quick trips to New York and Toronto somehow squeezed into the month amongst all the time in the mountains.
November saw catch up with great friends at favourite establishments and trips to favourite destinations to make up for the four month absence from SF. (Read: One too many dinners at Nopa, one too many coffees at Réveille and weekend roadtrips to the Sierras and the coast.)
December saw one final overnighter to Yosemite, before a quick return to Canada for the holidays. Spent in Calgary, Alberta and the most eastern point of North America: St. John's, Newfoundland.
Here's to an adventure filled 2015 with no line drawn between work and play.
